Queen of Pop
Known as the Queen of Pop, Madonna made quite an impact in the music industry. Born in Bay City, Michigan on August 16, 1958, this lady has girl power written all over her. Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone is the third child of Tony Ciccone and Madonna Fortin. The Catholic faith influenced Madonna’s work making it controversial.
When Madonna was still five years old, her mother died of breast cancer in December 1, 1963. Her father re-married the family housekeeper Joan Gustafson. At that time, Madonna rebels exchanging her conservative clothes into revealing clothing.
Beauty Brains and Wits
Having the talent of singing and dancing is all good but Madonna kept straight A’s back in high school that got her a full scholarship in the University of Michigan. While in the university, many opportunities came knocking her way but she chose to drop out of college and move to New York.
While in New York, she juggled jobs to pay rent. She posed for nude art, served in a Russian Tea Room and performed at the American Dance Center in 1979. She also worked as a showgirl in France. She came back to the States and join a band in 1980. In later years she formed bands named Madonna and the Sky, The Millionaires and Emmy.
Madonna went solo and hired Camille Barbone from Gotham Records as manager in 1981. Madonna’s first hit “Everybody” written by her friend Stephen Bray. Mark Kamins helped Madonna sign with Sire Records making her song hit the first spot in 1982.
A follow-up of her self-titled album Madonna, Like a Virgin was released and hit the top spot. Madonna released a controversial music video making Pepsi pulled out their endorsement. The Like a Prayer music video also made Pope John Paul advice the people not to go to her concerts in Italy in 1989.
Madonna released The Immaculate Conception, the greatest hits album in 1990. She married a Guy Ritchie and gave birth to her first child in 2000. She wrote her first children’s book in 2003.
She adopted a child from Malawi that caused some problems with Malawi Law, the adoption was finally approved in 20008. Madonna decided to end her 8-year marriage with Guy Ritchie in 2008.
Rebel Heart Tour
Due to public demand, Madonna went on a global tour in 2015. Montreal with sold out tickets was the first city to kick start the tour. Brisbane was the last stop that ended the Rebel Heart Tour in 2016.
